Colorado Closes Competition

ALBUQUERQUE/SPOKANE —  The University of Colorado track and field program closed out the New Mexico Collegiate Classic and WSU Open Saturday with three top-10 finishes.
 
The Buffs competed in the open 400 and 60 hurdles in New Mexico, while the shot putters competed in Washington. James Milholen led all athletes, finishing fifth in the men's 400-meter dash in 46.86 seconds.
 
Also in the quarter, Emma Pollak finished ninth in 54.13 seconds. Kara Lucyk competed in the 60 hurdles where she ran 8.99 seconds for 20th in qualifying.
 
In Spokane, Lauren Whyrick placed seventh in the shot put with a toss of 13.82 meters (45-4.25). Meghan Whyrick also competed, throwing 12.24 meters (40-2). Lars Atkinson was the lone thrower on the men's side with a toss of 13.75 meters (45-1.5), good for 22nd in the competition.
 
With the weekend complete, Colorado now has two individuals ranked in the top-10 in the NCAA and in qualifying positions. Avery McMullen's pentathlon from yesterday ranks her ninth in the nation, while Ella Baran's 5,000-meter run from December is holding steady at sixth in the NCAA.
