Buffs 12th Midway Through Second Round At Juli Inkster Invite

FAIRFAX, Calif. — The University of Colorado women's golf team is in 12th place midway through the second round at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational after play was suspended due to darkness.
The Buffaloes paused play at 19-over par, between their 10th and 12th holes of the second round. A one-hour, five-minute weather delay in the middle of the first round and slow wet conditions throughout the day pushed the second half of the second round to Tuesday morning. Play will resume at 9 a.m. MT, with the third and final round to immediately follow.
Top-ranked Stanford leads the field at 8-under, two strokes ahead of No. 11 USC and seven up on No. 5 San Jose State.
Colorado got off to a good start early. The Buffaloes were tied for fifth at 2-over through nine holes with four of Colorado's five golfers sitting between 1-under and 1-over.
The skies opened up over Meadow Club, forcing the delay, and the field generally dealt with rain, wind and sometimes even hail, the rest of the day.
Colorado finished the first round tied for seventh at 10-over, 298, its best round of the spring.
The Buffaloes struggled at the open of the second round, playing holes No. 13 through 18 at 10-over to start. Graduate senior Haylin Harris picked up a pair of birdies, and Lauren Gooding another before the darkness settled in and the round was suspended.
"We started really well today," Colorado head coach Anne Kelly said. "I'm really proud of how the team played for most of the first round. Unfortunately, we didn't finish too well after the rain delay. We saw signs of some very good, solid play today but had a few holes that hurt us."
Freshman Morgan Miller is tied for 19th at 2-over, with eight holes remaining in her second round. Miller shot even par, 72, in the first round and was tied for eighth after 18 holes. She was 2-under right out of the gate with consecutive birdies at No. 12 and No. 13. Miller played the next 12 holes at 3-over, before back-to-back birdies at No. 8 and No. 9 to get back to 1-under. Miller made bogey at No. 10, but finished even for her best round since the second round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.
"Morgan is playing really solid golf," Kelly said. "It's a tough course, but she seems to be handling the course and weather conditions well."
Gooding is tied for 27th at 3-over, with six holes left in her second round. She was 1-over, 73, after the first 18 holes, tying for 16th place and recording her best round of the spring. She had a pretty steady round with four birdies, staying between 1-over and 1-under for the entire round.
Sophomore Natalie Vo is tied for 55th at 7-over through 10 holes of the second round. Vo shot 4-over, 76, in the first round. She was 1-over through 11 holes, settling for bogey at the start on No. 15, but then recorded par on 10-straight holes. Vo stumbled at the turn, playing holes No. 8-10 at 4-over before picking up a stroke with her lone birdie of the round at No. 13.
Junior Hailey Schalk is tied for 71st at 12-over with seven holes remaining in her second round. She recorded a 77 in the first round. Schalk played her first 14 holes at even par, but dropped five strokes between No. 10-12.
Harris is in 73rd place at 15-over with six holes left in her second round. Harris shot an 85 in the first round, playing in her first event of the spring season. She had a much better beginning to her second round, playing 2-over through 12 holes including birdies at No. 1 and No. 3.
