Ward Breaks Own Hammer Record
April 21, 2023 | Track and Field
The Buffs' thrower has set the school record twice this season
GOLDEN - The Colorado track & field program put out a solid effort at the Mines Mini Meet on Friday with a new school record.
Â
Matt Ward, still a relative newcomer to the team, seems to be enjoying his start as a Buff. Ward set the school record in hammer two weeks ago at the Kit Mayer Invite, also at Colorado Mines. He would do it again on Friday, winning the men's hammer and breaking his previous school record with a throw of 65.17m (213-10). The mark places Ward within the top 20 in the NCAA West region. Tyler Sconce also competed in the event, throwing 60.59m (198-9) to place second.
Amanda Opp placed first in the women's hammer, throwing 57.58m (188-11).Â
Colorado took the top two spots in the men's long jump. Nicholas Bianco placed first with a leap of 6.67m (21-10.75). Jackson Meyer jumped 6.59m (21-7.50) to place second.
Â
Kara Lucyk jumped 5.88m (19-3.50) to take the win in the women's long jump with a new personal best and the eighth-best mark in CU history. Riley Burkey placed third with a jump of 5.32m (17-1.50).Â

The Buffaloes will be back in action on Sunday at the Fum McGraw Power Meet in Fort Collins.Â
