Colorado Wraps Up Busy Saturday

TUCSON - The Colorado track & field program split locations and competed at two different meets on Saturday. The Buffaloes had representatives at the Doug Max Invitational hosted by Colorado State as well as the Desert Heat Classic at the University of Arizona.

Isaiah Bouchard to the day started at CSU in the men's hammer throw. He set a new personal best with a throw of 55.63m (182-06), placing him fourth. Bella Braun placed fifth on the women's side with a throw of 52.40m (171-11), while Elena Opp closed the event in sixth, throwing 51.09m (167-07).

Meghan Whyrick threw a new personal best in the women's shot put, topping out at 13.26m (43-06.00) to place fifth.Â
Henry Carlson took home the win in men's javelin, throwing 50.85m (166-10).Â

Riley Burkey, making her 400-meters debut for the Buffaloes, placed second, clocking a 59.20. Burkey also placed second in the women's 200-meters with a time new personal best time of 25.94.Â
The Buffs had a much larger contingent competing at the highly competitive Desert Heat Classic.

Amanda Opp and Jane Powers started strong in the women's hammer throw. Opp placed sixth with a throw of 58.32m (191-4), while Powers threw 54.10m (177-6) to place ninth. Matt Ward, the reigning Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete of the Week, placed second in the men's hammer with a throw of 64.47m (211-6).Â
Karak Lucyk placed ninth in the women's long jump, with a new personal best of 6.03m (19-9.5) and Nick Bianco ran a new personal best in the men's 110-meter hurdles, clocking 14.50.Â
James Milholen and Tyler Williams finished in a dead heat in the men's 400-meters. The pair both clocked in with a 46.06. The times had to be rounded out to the 100th, giving Milholen (46.054) a slight edge for fifth over Williams (46.060). Milholen's time replaces his previous best this season keeping him seventh on CU's all-time performance list.
In the women's 400-meters, it was Grace Jenkins and Jaida Drame representing the Buffs. Jenkins ran 55.89, while Drama was right behind her, with 56.05.Â
Garrett Nelson placed seventh in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.75, while Abbey Glynn ran a new personal best of 56.41 in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Her time bests her own second-best mark on Colorado's performance list and is the ninth best time in the NCAA this season.
Gabrielle Orie dominated the field in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase. She ran 10:26.45 and was over 40 seconds ahead of second place (11:10.23).Â
The women's 4x400 of Avery McMullen, Emma Pollak, Drame and Glynn placed second with a time of 3:36.21. The time was good enough to place fourth on the program's performance list. Williams, Ian Gilmore, Garrett Nelson and Milholen clocked 3:05.24 to place third in the men's 4x400. They now sit second in the men's performance list.
The Buffaloes will be back in action at the Air Force Twilight on May 5, before heading off to the Pac-12 Championships.Â
