Colorado Closes Out First Day At Air Force
January 19, 2024 | Track and Field
COLORADO SPRINGS - Continuing the indoor season, the University of Colorado track and field program finished up day one of the Ralph Lindeman Classic here Friday at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Colorado had participants in four field events between the men and the women, seeing four top-five finishes on the day. Noah Bouchard placed fourth in the high jump and Matt Ward placed fourth in the weight throw while Kara Lucyk finished fourth in the long jump and Isabella Braun finished fifth in the weight throw.
Braun started things off for the Buffs with her best toss in the weight throw coming in at 16.94m. Right behind her was Amanda Opp who was just barely short of Braun's mark for a sixth-place finish. Later in the day, the men's field in the weight throw put up some great numbers, however Ward was able to crack the top-five with his best mark being 19.78m.
The men's high jump was interesting for Colorado this afternoon since there was an overlap with the 60m prelims at the same time. N. Bouchard was one of the few Buffs that didn't compete in the 60m, saving his energy for the high jump and finishing fourth after clearing 2.00m.
On the women's side, both Lucyk and Eva Bruce advanced to the finals in the long jump. Lucyk just missed out on the top-three with a mark of 5.79m while Bruce's best jump was 5.71m. Bruce also set a personal record in the 200m prelim earlier in the day with a time of 25.52.
In the eight preliminary races that took place this afternoon, Colorado had athletes compete in six of them. For the black and gold, seven men and five women qualified for finals races with their performances on the track.
Ian Gilmore, Johnny Homsy and Sam Beckham all qualified in the men's 60m race as Emma Pollak and Joy Moorer did the same in the women's 60m. In addition, Pollak qualified in the women's 200m leading all runners in 24.00.
Also competing in finals races Saturday are Nick Gehring and Homsy in the 200m, Danny Tragarz and Colton Romig in the 400m and Reese Renz in the 60m hurdles.
Action continues tomorrow at 11 a.m. while live results will be posted here.
