Harrouch’s Repeat Benchmark Leads Buffs At Stanford
October 19, 2024 | Women's Golf
STANFORD, Calif. — Colorado senior Maria Eidhagen Harrouch shot a 4-under-par 67 and achieved a rare benchmark for the second time this fall to lead the Buffaloes' effort in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate, Saturday at the 6,278-yard par 71 Stanford Golf Course.
Eidhagen Harrouch notched her third round in the 60s this fall with the help of a nine-hole score of 30 for the second half of her day, matching the performance on her opening nine holes of the season at the Leadership & Golf Invitational on Sept. 16. She also carded a 67 in that round, on the par 72 Chambers Bay course in University Place, Wash.
It's only the third known score of 30 or better in program history with the Sweden native now owning two of those marks. Esther Lee shot a 29 on her way to CU's school-record 18-hole score of 61 at the Dick McGuire Invite in Albuquerque, N.M. in 2016.
Her performance helped the Buffaloes hold onto 14th place in the tournament standings with a total score of 20-over 588. Colorado was six strokes better in the second round, shooting 7-over 291. The Buffaloes head into Sunday's round just two strokes of the top 10 in a field that features 12 of the top 50 teams in the nation.
Host and No. 3 ranked Stanford maintained its overall lead at 9-under, four strokes better than No. 14 USC. The Cardinal and Trojans are the only two teams under par through two rounds.
Eidhagen Harrouch, tied for 16th overall at 1-under, had a quiet beginning. Starting from No. 10, she was 1-over through nine, making par on seven-straight holes before a bogey on the par-3 17th.
After the turn, she got back into the red with birdies at the par-4 second and par-3 fourth. She made consecutive pars, before taking a big leap at the 490-yard par-5 seventh. After a great drive, Eidhagen Harrouch used a 4-hybrid from about 220 yards out and landed within nine feet of the hole.
Eidhagen Harrouch sank that putt for her first eagle of the season and then topped that off with a bridie on the 152-yard par-3 eighth and closed out with a par on the 364-yard par-4 ninth.
"She played really great," Colorado assistant coach Mia Landegren said. "She really came back on her back nine and started getting the birdies flowing. She was very good at committing to her process today; being determined and decisive over every shot. She has so much potential and so many good things to look forward to. It was really nice to see the pieces of the puzzle were starting to fit properly for her."
Freshman Sydney Givens is tied for 21st at 1-over after an even-par 71 in the second round. Givens was 1-under through her first nine, and moved to 2-under with a birdie at the 501-yard par-5 first, but fell back to even with bogeys at the third and fifth.
Junior Morgan Miller is tied for 59th at 8-over after a 74 in the second round, improving on her first day score by two strokes. Sophomore Vanessa Ngo is tied for 82nd at 12-over while Carolyn Fuller is in 90th at 14-over.
"We looked better than yesterday even though we had some higher scores," Landegren said. "I was proud of them for sticking with what they wanted to do individually. Sometimes putts just don't fall and this course is challenging so you have to be patient. I was happy with them sticking to what they wanted to do and trusting the process."
Washington's Vivan Lu is the leader after two rounds at 6-under, one stroke ahead of Arizona State's Beth Coulter and USC's Jasmine Koo.
Colorado will pair with San Jose State and SMU in Sunday's final round. The shotgun start will begin at 9:30 a.m. MT with the groups teeing off between the 12th and 15th holes.
