Williams Named National Freshman Of The Year Finalist

March 27, 2024 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER – University of Colorado's Cody Williams has been named a finalist for the 2023-24 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award, CollegeInsider.com announced on Wednesday.

Williams is one of 30 finalists, all being NCAA Division I student-athletes also being part of the Kyle Macy Freshman All-America Team. The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com

The award is named for Kyle Macy, the 1975 Indiana Mr. Basketball winner, who averaged 13.8 points as a freshman at Purdue before becoming a three-time All-American at Kentucky, helping the Wildcats to the 1978 NCAA Championship.

A 2023 McDonald's All-American, Williams averaged 11.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 55.2 percent from the field. He was second on the team in shooting percentage and blocked shots (16) while ranking third in scoring.

Williams, who missed 13 games due to a variety of injuries, shot 41.5 percent from 3-point range (17-of-41) and 71.4 percent from the free throw line (55-of-77).

A native of Gilbert, Ariz., Williams earned Pac-12 Conference All-Freshman Team honors and was named the league's Freshman of the Week on Jan. 22 after averaging 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals leading the Buffaloes to a home sweep of Oregon and Oregon State.

The 2024 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award will be announced during the week of the NCAA Final Four in Phoenix.
