Buffs Primed for Great Performances at Mt. SAC Relays
April 16, 2024 | Track and Field
BOULDER – As the Pac-12 Championships in Boulder near, the Colorado Buffaloes' men's and women's track and field teams are participating in the 64th annual Mt. SAC Relays this week. The meet will last four days in Walnut, Calif. with action starting on Wednesday, April 17 and ending on Saturday, April 20.
The first day of events will be very quiet for the Buffs as they have just one athlete competing. Avery McMullen will start the heptathlon on Wednesday as she is set to participate in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meters. She will finish out the final three events of the heptathlon the following day.
Day two at Hilmer Lodge Stadium will also be a relatively slow day for Colorado as the Buffs have just Gustavo Alfonso, Jada Green and Alaina Fantaski competing in the javelin throw. Fantaski kicks off the day competing in the event at 11 a.m. MT. Green will then represent the Buffs at 7:30 p.m. followed by Alfonso at 9 p.m.
Colorado will have its busiest day of the meet on Friday with over 20 athletes ready to see action. The Buffs have eight women set to participate on day three while the men have 16. Of the 11 men hitting the track, seven are coming off of personal bests at the Colorado Invitational. The Buffs will look to match that same success this week, especially on Friday.
To wrap up the 64th Mt. SAC Relays for CU, Isabella Braun, Amanda Opp, Lars Atkinson, Matt Ward and Isaiah Bouchard will compete in their respective hammer throw events on Saturday. On top of that, both the men's and women's Colorado 4x400-meter relay teams will make a showing and Abbey Glynn will race in the 400-meter hurdles.
Following the conclusion of this meet, the Buffs will have just two more days of meets on April 27 and May 3 before Colorado hosts the Pac-12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 11-13.
