Colorado Finds Success at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif – Colorado's men's and women's track and field teams saw four athletes compete across several events at the 64th Mt. SAC Relays here Thursday as the Buffaloes await their busy day of action on Friday.
After starting competition on Wednesday, Avery McMullen finished out the final three events of the heptathlon today with the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter. McMullen managed a fifth-place finish in the long jump and a sixth-place finish in the 800m. She placed seventh out of 14 heptathletes with a score of 5828 points, just three shy of tying her personal best which he set at last year's Pac-12 Championships.
At noon, Alaina Fantaski represented the Buffs in the javelin throw with her best mark coming on her final attempt. She finished seventh with a toss of 43.51m as all six competitors ahead of her were Pac-12 athletes.
Jada Green competed in the javelin throw elite heat several hours after Fantaski's performance. Green threw for a mark of 47.37m and a 10-place finish, narrowly missing the cut for the finals.
Gustavo Alfonso was the final Buff to see action here in Walnut, Calif. as he also showcased his skills in the javelin throw. Similar to Fantaski, Alfonso saved his best attempt for last, throwing 54.94m to wrap up day two.
Colorado's teams will be in full force on Friday with over 20 athletes competing throughout the day. Track events will run from 12 p.m. MT to 11:05 p.m. while the field events will start at 10 a.m. with the last event starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Buffs will also be sending three athletes to Golden, Colo. to compete in the Mines Kit Mayer Classic. Drake Miller and John Swabik are set for the long jump while Ames Newman looks to perform well in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. All field events will begin at 10 a.m.
