
Luczak, Nytes Pick Up Sportswomen of Colorado Honors

DENVER – Colorado soccer goalkeeper Jordan Nytes and alpine skier Magdalena Luczak were named Sportswomen of Colorado athletes of the year for their respective sports, the organization announced Friday. Â
Overall, six Buffaloes were honored overall with former Buff Val Constien earning the track & field honor at the professional level and former staff member Kristine Franklin in golf at the master's level, while former women's golf coach Anne Kelly earned a legacy award and former football player Maurice Henriques won the coach of the year honor for Niwot track & field, both considered special honors by the organization. Â
Luczak was the national women's alpine skier of the year after winning both individual national championships and propelling the team to the program's 21st national championship as a team. Â On the season, she won four of the six college races she participated in, won two individual NCAA championships, two first-team All-America honors, an RMISA individual championships, first-team All-RMISA and her record against the field was an astonishing 176-2. Â She is the first women's alpine skier to win more than 50 percent of her races in a season and she was equally good in both slalom and GS, picking up two wins and one second place in each discipline.Â
Nytes, the 2024 Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Year, was in net for all 11 of Colorado's shutouts this season, ranking second in the Big 12 and seventh in the NCAA. She helped captain the Buffs to 12 wins last season and finished second in the Big 12 with 101 saves and she also ranked second in save percentage at 82.1%. Â At one point, she helped keep CU's opponents scoreless for a CU record 588:33 consecutive minutes. Â
She ranks fifth all-time at CU with 25 wins in her two seasons in Boulder. Nytes' 19 total shutouts place her tied for fourth in CU history. She also cracked the top 10 in career saves (8th, 174), goalkeeper starts (6th, 43), goalkeeper minutes (6th, 3,799), save % (4th, .813) and goals against average (4th, 0.95).
Constien capped her CU career helping CU win the national championship in 2018 when she was an All-American and went on to represent the United States at the delayed 2020 Olympic games where she advanced to the final of the steeplechase and finished 12th. Â She then won the Olympic Trials in 2024 to advance to her second Olympic games where she finished 15th. Â A Vail, Colo., native, she graduated from Battle Mountain high school in 2014.Â
Franklin is a former CU staff member, at one time working with the men's basketball staff and is the wife of former CU assistant women's golf coach Brent Franklin. Â She was honored by Sportswomen for winning her fourth CGA Women's Senior Stroke Play championship, doing so for the fourth time when she defeated Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Kim Eaton. Â
Kelly retired after 27 seasons as the University of Colorado women's golf coach, becoming the longest-tenured women's coach in CU history. Â She led Colorado to eight NCAA regional appearances and two NCAA championship events. Â She coached nine All-Americans and 15 all-conference golfers in her tenure. Â
Henriques played football at Colorado from 1992-96 and went into coaching in the state of Colorado in 1998, having coaches at Denver North, Fairview and then Niwot, where he has been the track & field coach since 2010. Â He also coached football at his various stops. Â At Niwot, he has coached the track & field teams to eight state championships in track & field, winning both boys and girls titles in 2019 and '21. Â His girls team won its sixth state title in 2024. Â
