Colorado continues in dominant play against Weber State

DENVER – The Colorado Buffalo women's tennis team had yet another successful day of competition at the Pioneer Hidden Duals, securing five singles and two doubles victories on the day against Weber State University.

The Buffs switched it up starting the day with singles competition, finishing with a 5-3 record over the Wildcats.
Each defeat from the Buffs was a result of straight sets, completed by the top four courts and No. 7. Lera Alexin recorded the first victory at No. 2, defeating Naomi Johnson in an almost-complete sweep, 6-0, 6-1.

In matching 6-2 sets, Rixt Van Der Werff kept the wins rolling in the top spot. Downing Jessica Hill, she records her 10th career singles victory after a close defeat in yesterday's dual.

Pia Rebec followed at No. 3, recording her 30th career singles victory over Alicia Celorio Morales, capturing a 6-4 first set and a perfect 6-0 second to cap it off.

"I felt really good in singles," Rebec explained, "I focused well throughout both sets, and knew exactly what to play, especially with the coaches helping me work through it."

At No. 4, Anya Nelson kept the wins coming, downing Paulina Aleksandrowicz. Nelson took the first set, 6-2, then bringing the second to a 5-5 tie. From there Nelson took over, capturing two more games to secure the defeat at 7-5.

Heidi Crncan finished off singles competition with a successful matchup over Colorado State's Hanna Haber. Crncan recorded a quick 6-2 first set, taking the lead early. The Buff finished after a tough battle in the second, bringing the match 5-5. Crncan then topped it off in the tiebreak, taking the win at 7-5.

"We've seen good things so far this weekend with both singles and doubles," says head coach Anthony Pham, "we still have some cleaning up to do, but overall good performance."

The fire continued throughout doubles competition, with two Buff pairs taking quick victories at the top two spots.

At No. 2, Nelson and Rebec made quick work of a 6-0 sweep over Morales and Aleksandrowicz. Van Der Werff and Alexin followed right behind, getting it done against Hill and Johnson, 6-2.

"Overall doubles did really well," Pham continued, "We tried out some new pairs this weekend, and we've seen positive results. Tomorrow's a new day, and we'll keep building."
