Colorado Attends Hawaii North Shore Showcase

The Buffs will face UT-Arlington, VCU and Texas A&M ahead of Thanksgiving

BOULDER – The Colorado women's basketball team (3-1, 0-0 Big 12) goes on the road for three games in the Hawaii North Shore Showcase in Laie, Oahu, at the George Q. Cannon Activities Ctr. Hosted on the BYU-Hawaii campus, CU will open the invitational against UT-Arlington on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. MT.
 
The Buffs will also play VCU and Texas A&M in the tournament on Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m. MT and Nov. 25 at 5 p.m. MT, respectively.
 
Last week, the Black and Gold delivered the Broncos' first loss of their season, outscoring them 25-9 in the first quarter. The Buffs put on a show, holding the Broncos under 15 points in three quarters and below 20 points in all four. CU took the game by 30 points, 83-53.

TIP-OFF (TL;DR)
  • CU is led by 10th-year head coach JR Payne, who has led the Buffs to a 167-117 (.588) record as CU's eighth head women's basketball coach. Coach Payne has been extended through the 2028 season and has led the Buffs to three NCAA appearances, two WNIT appearances and one WBIT appearance.
  • In its second year back in the Big 12, Colorado was picked to finish ninth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll.
  • The Buffs return three from last year's roster, including one starter, in Sr. F Jade Masogayo, R-So. G Kennedy Sanders and 5th C JoJo Nworie.
  • Colorado welcomes 10 newcomers for the 2025-26 season, five transfers and five freshmen. The five transfers include R-Jr. G Zyanna Walker (Kansas State), R-Jr. G Desiree Wooten (North Texas), Jr. G Claire O'Connor (Gonzaga), R-Jr. G Maeve McErlane (DePaul) and Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat (Rhode Island). The five freshmen include G Erianna Gooden (Fork Smith, Ark./Northside H.S.), C Jade Crook (Albury, Australia/Basketball Australia Center of Excellence/Lake Ginninderra College), G Isa Hämäläinen (Lorentzweiler, Luxembourg/European School of Luxembourg 1), F Logyn Greer (Lansdowne, Pa./Friends' Central School) and F Sophie Zadel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights H.S).
  • CU had five players in double digits for points against Boise State (Nov. 18) – R-So. G Kennedy Sanders (14), Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat (17), Fr. F Logyn Greer (11), R-Jr. G Zyanna Walker (10), and R-Jr. G Desiree Wooten (10).
  • Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat is second the Big 12 in rebounding with 39 total and 9.8 rebounds per game. She is also sixth for field goal percentage per game (55.6%), fifth for steals per game (2.8) and 24th for free throw percentage (68.8%). Against Boise State, she had 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and an assist (Nov. 18).
  • R-Jr. G Zyanna Walker is leading the Big 12 assist-to-turnover ratio with 5.7. She is also 15th in assists per game with 4.3, and 14th for steals per game with 2.3. Versus Boise State, she had 10 points, six assists, four rebound and one steal (Nov. 18).
  • R-Jr. G Desiree Wooten is currently 24th in the Big 12 for 3-point field goals per game with 1.8. Against the Broncos, she had 10 points, two steals, one rebound and one assist (Nov. 18).
  • Sr. F Jade Masogayo is currently 25th in the Big 12 for blocks per game (1.0 after four games).
  • As a team, the Buffs are fourth in the Big 12 for combined opponent rebounds per game (30.8) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.13). CU is also fourth for team steals per game with 13.00.

CALL SIGN, MAVERICK: Colorado will begin the tournament with UT-Arlington, matching up with the Lady Mavs for the first time since 2023 and just the second time in program history. The Buffs hosted and won by 21 points in their first and previous meeting with the Mavs, 95-74 (Dec. 5, 2023). CU is 28-2 against Western Athletic Conference opponents all-time.
 
RACING RAMS: The Buffs will meet the Rams for the first time in program history in the North Shore Showcase. VCU is one of two teams that the Black and Gold will face for the first time. The Buffs are 10-2 against Atlantic-10 opponents all-time.
 
AGGIES!: While the Buffs haven't played the Aggies since 2011, this is the 20th meeting between the teams in program history. CU traveled to College Station in the teams' last match-up, falling 85-57. In the past, the Buffs have won 10 games in a row versus the Aggies, but currently look to break an eight-game losing streak. Colorado is 63-54 against Southeastern Conference opponents all-time.
 
#2 SANDERS: R-So. G Kennedy Sanders' big brother, Peyton, played football at Southwest Minnesota State. Beyond basketball, Sanders has multiple hobbies, including traveling, hiking, running, being on the lake and spending time with family and friends. After basketball, Sanders would like to be a chiropractor.

#4 NWORIE: 5th C JoJo Nworie is stoked about her second season as a Buff. A fun fact about Nworie is that she can speak four different languages. After graduation, Nworie plans to continue her basketball career professionally.
 
#7 O'CONNOR: Transfer Jr. G Claire O'Connor had an incredible sophomore year at Gonzaga, accumulating 261 points, 118 rebounds and 42 assists. O'Connor is excited for her first year as a Buffalo and to make an immediate impact on the court.
