Tennis Buffs Sweep the Falcons
January 25, 2026 | Tennis
BOULDER – The Colorado Buffaloes tennis team continues a winning track following a 4-0 sweep against the Air Force Academy Sunday at the Meadows Club.
Colorado started on a good note with two doubles wins, finding a 1-0 lead heading into singles. Lera Alexin and Rixt van der Werff secured the first win at the No. 2 spot, followed quickly by Pia Rebec and Lani Brotman on No. 3 to top it off.
"There's a lot of room for growth for us, but happy to get through the weekend 2-0," head coach Anthony Pham said. "We played doubles a bit better than Friday, so that's good. We know we are capable of playing at a higher level, and we have to keep working on that. We did a good job of persevering and problem solving today."
It took three singles victories to give the Buffs the win, which Bubalo, Alexin, and Rebec found in straight sets.
Bubalo took the lead at No. 2, opening with a 6-1, 6-0, success. Alexin and Rebec both found themselves tied at 5-5 in their second singles sets yet made quick work of finding two games to take the victory, 7-5.
"Ema and Pia both played really well today," Pham said. "Pia was a rock. This week we'll focus on playing better doubles, just cleaning up some things. Overall, we're happy."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Starting the day off, Alexin and van der Werff recorded their 13th win as a pair, downing Cotuna and Michalski, 6-3.
Just three minutes later, Rebec and Brotman notched their 6-4 win over Kojonroj and Rhoades, giving the Buffs a 1-0 lead moving into singles.
Bubalo gave Colorado the first singles victory on No. 2, downing Mavor in a straight 6-1, 6-0 match, handing the Buffs a 2-0 lead.
"It was a great match, I think the whole team, we had a good energy on the court," Bubalo said. "We started good with doubles and got the job done, and we all felt comfortable coming into singles. I really felt the ball, I felt great and had good movement. Everybody did great today, and I think it was my day today."
Alexin kept the energy going at No. 4, taking on Kojonroj to give the Buffs a 3-0 lead. The sophomore picked up her seventh win this season, downing the Falcon after a back-and-forth battle, 6-2, 7-5.
Rebec cleaned it up on No. 3 against Michalski, taking a 5-0 lead in the second set, then falling in five straight games to bring it to 5-5. The Buff quickly came back taking the last two games, and finding the clinch for Colorado.
