Buffs Corral Cowgirls, 79-65

January 25, 2026 | Women's Basketball

BOULDER – The Colorado women's basketball team (13-7, 4-4 Big 12) defeated Oklahoma State (16-5, 5-3 Big 12), 79-65, at CU Events Center on Sunday, Jan. 25.

The Buffaloes took an early lead over the Cowgirls, going up by as many as eight in the first quarter. The Buffs extended their lead throughout the second quarter, ending the half ahead by 10. The Cowgirls tried to come back throughout the second half, putting full-court pressure on the ball and going hard on the offensive glass. The Black and Gold maintained their lead and ended the game ahead by 14.

"I'm really proud of our team," head coach JR Payne said. "Today we did some things during this game that we worked on all week, like some execution of certain things, offensively, defensively, before the game started. After shoot-around, we said, 'The tougher team wins today.' These are two really good teams. We do things well, they do things well, but whoever's tougher is going to win this ball game. We just knew that it was going to come down to that. I thought, with the exception of just that we gave them too many offensive rebounds. I thought we did such a good job of guarding, of executing, going against [the] press. We haven't seen that much this year. So I'm really proud of our squad today and excited to get the win."

The Buffaloes had a season-high field-goal percentage of 57%. Colorado had more points in the paint (42-36), bench points (29-9), assists (18-13), fast-break points (18-5) and blocks (3-2).

Former Colorado women's basketball head coach Ceal Barry was honored prior to the game and at halftime with the Ceal Barry Plaza dedication. Read more about the plaza dedication here.
