Buffs Back in Action at No. 22 Army

Colorad continues in New York

WEST POINT, N.Y. – No. 15 Colorado doesn't have to wait long to get back on the field after suffering its first loss at No. 18 Stony Brook. The Buffaloes will turn around and head across West Point to take on No. 22 Army on Sunday.

The short time between games marks the Buffs' first quick turnaround of the young season. The window leaves little room for overthinking and plenty of opportunity.

"You know, Army's a great team," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said following the loss to Stony Brook. "They have some similarities on the offensive end to a little bit of what we saw today. They have a couple of the top players in the country on that offensive side."

The challenge comes in the form of a pair of preseason Nike Lacrosse Media All-Americans in Brigid Duffy and Allison Reilly. Duffy set a new single-season Army record for goals, groundballs, and caused turnovers, while breaking the career records in goals, points, ground, and caused turnovers. Rilley was one of two players in the nation last year to record 50 goals and 35 assists, setting a single-season program record with 102 points.

For Colorado, the focus isn't just about slowing down Army's 15.5 goals per game. It's about sharpening its own identity after costly turnovers and cards at Stony Brook.

"For us, our focus has always kind of been on ourselves and what we do and how we can continue to improve and get better.

"We've got to take some positives from today, we've got to learn from today," Whidden noted. "Then we've got to get back focused on ourselves and ready to just go out there and compete for an actual 60 minutes."

In many ways, the timing could be a gift. Instead of sitting with the loss and dwelling on missed opportunities, Colorado gets another shot almost immediately.

"This is an awesome opportunity," Whidden added. "Sometimes when things don't go your way, you have to wait a little bit for your next challenge. Well, we don't have to wait that long."

Colorado (3-1) did have a few bright spots in its first loss of the season on Thursday. Goalkeeper Elena Oh matched her career-high with 12 saves and continues to be among the top goalies in the NCAA with her .536 save% and a 6.75 GAA.

Army (3-1) was idle all last week, following its 13-7 win over first-year program Florida State. The Black Knights' lone loss of the season came at No. 2 Northwestern, 18-7, back on Feb. 14.

First draw is set for 10 a.m. MT. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
