Molly Reed vs. Stetson

No. 13 Colorado Tramples Stetson

March 15, 2026 | Lacrosse

Three Buffs score first-career goals

BOULDER - No. 13 Colorado played a dominant first half against Stetson and scored 10 consecutive goals, allowing the Buffs to take the win, 18-3.

The Buffaloes (5-2) maintain a perfect record at home, extending their record to 3-0. This was the first game at home since Colorado beat Towson, 17-5, on Feb. 21.

CU had more caused turnovers (16-2), ground balls (23-7), draw controls (12-11) and assists (8-2) than Stetson. The Buffaloes held the Hatters scoreless for the entire first quarter and gained a 10-point lead before Stetson scored their first goal.

"For us coming out here, our focus has just been on our standards and being able to execute those consistently," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden explained. "We didn't do that great at Michigan. I think we played a little individual. We didn't control the tempo of the game very well. So that was a big focus for us here today. I thought we did a good job of that."

The Buffs had 13 different goalscorers on Sunday, headlined by Molly Reed's second career hat trick. Maddie Shoup, Jaimey Hill and Rowan Edson each scored a pair. Hill added two assists to lead the team with four points.

Whidden was able to empty the bench in the second half, bringing on all available players, including all three goalies.

"I think this is a group that works so hard. In practice, each of our players has a different role," Whidden stated about the participation on the field. "They worked extremely hard this weekend. Anytime we have the opportunity to get them in and get them opportunities, it's more than deserved. And I'm really excited to do that today and really excited about how they went out there and executed on all ends."

How It Happened
Both teams were scoreless for the initial five minutes of the first quarter, but Shoup opened scoring for Colorado with a free position goal at the 9:55 mark. From there, the momentum picked up, and Rachel Kennedy turned a Stetson turnover into a CU goal less than two minutes later for the 2-0 lead.

Edson scored a second free-position goal for the Black and Gold, and a minute and a half later, Colorado scored three goals, from Reed, Averi Gardner and Teagan Ryan to go up 6-0 with 3:47 to play in the opening period.

A turnover from the Hatters sent Lily Assini down the field for the seventh goal at 1:20, and with less than 20 seconds remaining,  Hill scored off a pass from Shoup to extend the CU lead to 8-0.

Bella Reece scored an early second-quarter goal following a caused turnover by Reed. The Buffs pushed their lead to 10-0, Edson's second score of the day, forcing Stetson to take a timeout down 10-0 early into the quarter.

The Hatters scored their first goal at 9:26, but Shoup responded with her second goal of the game to regain the 10-goal cushion. Reed took advantage of a Stetson turnover and scored again, with an assist from Hill, growing the lead to 12-1.

Phoebe Rogala assisted Hill on the final goal of the quarter, ending the half with a 12-point Buffalo lead.

The Hatters scored two minutes into the third quarter to get back within 11, 13-2, but that was as close as Stetson would get the rest of the day.

Neither team scored for nearly 10 minutes before Natalie Myslinski ended the CU scoring drought with her first career goal on a free position chance. With the energy reignited from Myslinski's goal, Rogala scored another free-position goal to take a 13-point lead. With 14 seconds remaining, Reed scored her third goal of the game, burying Stetson deeper in a 16-2 hole.

"It's nice to be back at home and get some confidence under our belts," Reed noted. "A lot of people today had some opportunities, and everyone took advantage, which was really fun to see. I think that today just showed what happens when we're all working together and we can be super successful when we're all working as a team."

Caity Brower, who entered late in the third quarter, made a save to keep Stetson at two goals at the beginning of the fourth. Minutes later, her sister, Addison Brower, scored her first-career goal, upping the CU lead to 17-2.

The Hatters snuck one past Jillian Kane off a free-position goal, but Haylie Abrams ended the quarter with the first goal of her career, assisted by Reece, and saw the Buffs win, 18-3.
