Stanford Invitational (Friday)
Stanford Invitational action got underway Friday night with a series of standout performances for the Buffs, highlighted by a record-breaking run from Abbey Nechanicky.
Nechanicky delivered the performance of the day in the women's 10,000 meters, shattering the program record with a massive personal best of 32:23.93. The mark eclipsed her previous best of 33:29.00 by over a minute. Competing in a stacked field, Nechanicky placed 11th overall, finishing behind a field that included BYU's Jane Hedengren, who set a new collegiate record in the event.
To open the evening on a high note, Kole Mathison captured the men's invitational 3000-meter steeplechase title in 8:32.42. The time improves on his own No. 3 mark in program history and currently ranks No. 5 in the NCAA this season.
