Mathison Earns Bronze at Big 12 Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. – Colorado track and field continued competition Friday at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, highlighted by a bronze-medal performance from Kole Mathison in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.

Mathison earned bronze in the event with a time of 8:38.78 after leading for a portion of the race in a strong effort. The junior is set to compete at the NCAA West Regional in a few weeks and will look to qualify for back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances in the steeplechase.
On the track, Avery Pearson advanced to Saturday's women's 800-meter final after placing second in the preliminaries with a controlled 2:01.79 performance. Pearson will race for the conference title Saturday at 8:20 p.m. MT.
Colorado continues competition Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. MT with Lucas Williams in the men's discus, while Pearson will open the running events for the Buffs in the women's 800-meter final.
