CU Defense Delivers As Buffs End Pac-12 Drought

CORVALLIS, Ore. ? Finally.

After almost two full years ? 707 days if youGÇÖre counting ? and 14 conference games, the Colorado Buffaloes ended their Pac-12 drought Saturday night, making a single touchdown in the second half hold up for a 17-13 win over Oregon State at Reser Field.

The win, which also ended a 13-game Pac-12 road game losing streak for the Buffs, didnGÇÖt come easily. After taking a 17-10 lead early in the fourth quarter, the Buffs gave up a field goal to OSU on the BeaversGÇÖ next possession, then had to rely on their defense to clinch the win.

The defense delivered in a big way. Colorado improved to 4-4 on the season and 1-3 in Pac-12 play, keeping the BuffaloesGÇÖ bowl hopes alive, while the Beavers dropped to 3-4, 0-4.

GÇ£The kids just kept coming back and coming back,GÇ¥ an emotional Mike MacIntyre said after the game. GÇ£They just kept believing. ItGÇÖs really, really special.GÇ¥

After taking the 17-10 lead, the Buffs had three more possessions in the fourth quarter ? and each one consisted of just three plays and a punt. That put the burden on CUGÇÖs defense, and on this night, the Buffs were up to the challenge, stopping the Beavers on three straight possessions.

OSUGÇÖs last drive ended with 24 seconds left on the clock when CUGÇÖs Chidobe Awuzie picked off a Nick Mitchell pass on fourth down at the Colorado 38-yard line.

ThatGÇÖs when the Buffs ran perhaps their sweetest offensive snap of the night ? one from GÇ£victory formationGÇ¥ to run out the clock.

GÇ£It wasnGÇÖt pretty, but IGÇÖll take an ugly win every day,GÇ¥ MacIntyre said...more
