What sparked your interest in the Ralphie program?
I've been a CU fan since I was born, so Ralphie has always had a very special place in my heart. She's the best tradition in college sports. Being able to carry it on and be a part of it is an incredible honor.
What does Ralphie mean to you?
Ralphie symbolizes the spirit of the university. She is not only a tradition to the school, she is also a tradition to my life. I first saw her run when I was 4 years old and she became one of the many reasons I wanted to attend the University of Colorado.
What's the hardest part of being a Ralphie Handler?
Perfecting all the intricacies that come with running a buffalo. Whether it's putting on her harness, tying the leads to the panels, or even getting her into the trailer, there are so many little things you need to pay attention to.
What's the best part of being a Ralphie Handler?
Getting to work with such a beautiful and smart animal
What's one thing that surprises people the most when they ask you about being a Ralphie Handler?
The amount of time we spend training and practicing with Ralphie. The veteran Handlers make it look easy out there on game day, but people don't realize all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.
What's one thing about Ralphie that surprised you the most after becoming a Ralphie Handler?
I had always heard that buffaloes were smart animals, but I never understood how smart until I met Ralphie! She has such a distinct personality and it's been amazing getting to know her.
What are your hobbies?
Fishing, hunting, and anything else that allows me to get outside and experience all the beauty Colorado has to offer.
