2007 OUTLOOK: Daniel has a tremendous shot at scoring in both the conference indoor and outdoor championships, having previously scored indoors in various DMRs. His cross country season, coupled with his tireless work in the weight-room, should provide the platform for several pr’s this year.
2006: Kenny participated in the 800, mile and 3,000-meters during the indoor season. He ran to a second-place finish at the Air Force Invite with a time of 1:56.17. Kenny recorded a personal record of 4:10.73 at the Husky Classic in the mile run. He also set a pr in the 3,000 at the Big 12 Indoor Championship with a time of 8:36.58 and finished 36th overall. Kenny competed in the 1,500 during the outdoor season. He pr’d at the Mt. Sac Relays, recording a mark of 3:50.94 and placing ninth overall. He placed 12th at the league’s outdoor championship (8:52.56).
2005: Kenney only competed in one race during the indoor season, running a 1:55.82 800-meter race at the Husky Classic in February. In the outdoor season, he participated in the 400, 800, and 1,500m races. Kenney finished in sixth-place at the Potts Invitational 400 race with a time of 52.77 and ran to an eighth-place finish in the 800-m with a time of 1:54.86 at the Jack Christiansen Invitational. Kenney set a pr of 3:54.78 in the 1,500 race at the Mt. SAC Relays in April.
2004: Kenney lettered during the indoor track season competing in the 800-meter and distance medley relay. His top time and finish in the 800-m came at the Air Force Classic when he clocked a 1:56.54 to earn sixth place. At the Air Force Invite he ran a 1:56.88, good for 11th overall. His efforts on CU’s DMR unit netted Big 12 scoring points for the Buffs at the conference championships, when they posted a 9:57.55 for fifth place. During the outdoor season Kenney competed in the 400 and 800-meter dashes. He ran one 400 and clocked a time of 51:86 (eighth place) at the Potts Invitational. In the 800, his top time came during the Pepsi Invitational with a 1:53.23; that mark also gave him a seventh-place finish, his highest during the season. Kenny also ran a 1:53.84 at the Long Beach Invitational to earn eighth.
CROSS COUNTRY: In three races during the 2004 season, he finished 57th in the Rocky Mountain Shootout before a pair of top-20 finishes at the Tiger (19th) and Air Force (12th) invites. He competed in the same three races in 2005, recording an 11th place overall performance at the Air Force Invitational for his highest finish of the season. At the Tiger Invitational he came in 26th and at the Rocky Mountain Shootout he earned a 44th-place finish. Kenney ran three races in 2006. He placed fourth at the Air Force Invite and was 84th in the open pre-nationals race. At the shootout, he took 26th overall and was the 11th Buff to cross the finish.
HIGH SCHOOL: A three-sport athlete (cross-country, soccer, track) at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colo., Kenney graduated with school records in the 800- meter (1:54.52), 4x800 relay (7.54) and 4x1600 relay (19.00). A three-time all-conference selection in track and field, he also earned the Who’s Who Award (academic/sports) and Senior of the Year Award in his final year of high school. A three-year letterwinner as a soccer midfielder, he was captain of the team his junior season. He lists the biggest moment of his prep career when he took third place in the 800 at the 5A state championships in his senior year.
ACADEMICS: Kenny has earned a 4.00 GPA twice while at CU; the fall of ’04 and ’05. Kenney is a business administration major with a near-perfect 3.971 grade point average. In addition to the President’s List appearances, he is a four-time Dean’s List and seven-time Commissioner’s Honor Roll member. In high school Kenney was a member of the National Honor Society, while twice garnering first-team academic all-state recognition as a four-year honor athlete (3.75 GPA and two sports).
