2008: Smith switched over from the sprints to compete in the combined events during her junior season. She debuted at the Potts Invite pentathlon and placed second with 3,102 points. Smith recorded three pr’s that day in the 60 hurdles (9.42), high jump (5-02.25) and the long jump (16-10.50). Her other pentathlon was at the Big 12 meet and she took 18th with 2,872 points. Smith competed in three heptathlons during the outdoor season and her best showing came at the Big 12 meet. She took 10th overall with 4,318 points and recorded four pr’s. Smith jumps 5-00.50 in the high jump, 17-09.50 in the long jump, threw the shot put 38-05.50 and ran the 200 in 26.27. Smith also placed third at the Northridge Relays (4,136) and sixth at Glenn Morris (4,015).
2007: Smith competed in four events during the indoor season?the 200 and 400-meter events, the 600-yard and the 60-meter hurdles. Smith’s strongest event was the 400, which she competed in at four meets. She set a personal record in the 400 at the Don Barrett Open with a time of 60.09 and a ninth-place finish. Smith’s highest finish in the event came at the Potts Indoor Invite where she placed second with a time of 63.11. In the 60-meter hurdles, Smith set a pr of 9.99 at the Potts Indoor Invite, which earned her a sixth-place finish. She also set pr times in the 200 (26.73) and the 600 (1:31.60). During the outdoor season, Smith only competed in one meet?the Potts Invite?where she earned a fifth-place finish in the 400 with a pr time of 67.56.
2006: Redshirt. Did not compete.
HIGH SCHOOL: A four-year letterwinner, Smith competed in the 300-m hurdles, 400, 800-meters and as the third leg of DeSoto’s school record setting 4x400-m (3:47) relay team that finished fourth in the 2005 5A Texas State Championships. The 2003 district champion in the 800-m, her personal record in the event is 2:17 and her other pr’s on the track are 0:58 in the 400-m and 44.90 in the 300 hurdles. DeSoto’s girls’ track and field teams are the 2002 and ’05 regional champions and finished fourth at the 5A Texas State Championships in 2005. On the national level, she ran the 800-m at the 2003 USA Junior National meet in Miami, finishing 10th. In the classroom she is a National Honor Society member, Texas Scholar and is a member of Who’s Who Among American High School Students.
