COLORADO WOMEN'S SOCCER DOMINANT AT HOME, BESTS WYOMING 4-1

September 25, 1996 | Soccer

BOULDER, Colo. - The University of Colorado women's soccer team used three goals in just under six minutes of play in the second half Tuesday afternoon to secure a convincing 4-1 victory over visiting Wyoming.

Midfielder Elizabeth Larmore led the Colorado charge with two of the three goals in the six-minute second half span, one at 72 minutes on an assist from forward Kia Young and the other at 76 minutes off a high-arching penalty kick.

Head coach Austin Daniels was more than pleased with his young team's effort.

"It was nice to pressure them and get some goals as a result," Daniels said of Colorado's late dominance. "We had a number of scoring chances in the first half that we didn't put away. It was nice to be able to put them away in the second half."

Colorado opened the game's scoring eight minutes into the contest when midfielder Janel Opeka took an assist from midfielder Dayna Robinson and buried the ball in the back of the Wyoming net. The Buffs took the 1-0 edge into the second half, where the Cowboys knotted the score with a goal at 62 minutes.

Colorado took control of the game from there, with Larmore's two goals and another by freshman sensation Shawn Kenyon at 78 minutes giving securing the Buff victory.

Colorado moves to 2-3-1 (0-2-0 Big 12) with the victory, which includes an unblemished 2-0 standing at home. And after watching a crowd of 400 sit through rainy, forty-degree weather to support his team, Daniels was duly impressed.

"We're certainly comfortable at home," Daniels said. "It's something special when you can get a turnout like this on a day like today."

Colorado will return to the playing field Friday, when they will square off against Oklahoma State (5-1-1, 0-1-1 Big 12) at 3 p.m. MDT. The game will be played at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex in North Boulder.
