COLORADO SOCCER EDGED AT KANSAS
September 28, 1997 | Soccer
LAWRENCE, Kan. -The University of Colorado women's soccer team dropped a 4-3 decision to Big 12 rival Kansas Sunday despite the squad's most productive offensive performance of the season.
Â
Colorado was led by senior Donna Holyman, who notched two of the Buffs' three scores on the day. Holyman's first tally came in the game's 14th minute, when she buried the ball in the back of the net on a free kick. Her second score came just two minutes later, when she connected on a penalty kick.
Â
The Buffaloes' third goal came in the game's 87th minute, when sophomore Shawn Kenyon took an assist from freshman Nicole Perretti and scored on the right side. Another late shot by Kenyon had a chance to send the game into overtime, but was saved by Kansas keeper Jen Fecke.
Â
The three goals mark the most scored for Colorado on the season, and the second most scored in a game in the program's two-year history.
Â
Colorado drops to 3-7 overall on the season, with a 3-3 mark in Big 12 games. Kansas moves to 3-7 and 1-4.
Â
"It was a disappointing loss," head coach Austin Daniels said. "We gave up goals because we didn't concentrate for 90 minutes. We need to improve on that if we are going to be a good team."
Â
Next up for Buffaloes will be their first home contest in nearly a month, as they will square off against in-state rival Colorado College at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex in North Boulder. Admission to all CU home games is free.
