BOULDER - The University of Colorado women's soccer team (4-8-2, 1-3-1) fell to the #24 Texas
A&M Aggies (8-5, 3-2) 3-0 here today in Big 12 conference play.
"They are a good team," said Coach Austin Daniels. "I think we got more chances on goal than we have in the past, but if you don't finish, you are not going to win the game. I hope we can come out strong on Sunday (vs. Texas). We've had a lot of tough games, and this one is no different."
The Aggies got on the scoreboard late in the first half when Amber Reynolds finished a Heather Wiebe comer kick at the 41 :22 mark of the first half. A&M's leading scorer Nicky Thrasher notched her seventh goal of the season a the 68:36 mark off an assist from Katie Offutt when she shot from 15 yards out and tucked it into the left bottom comer. Sharon Pickering closed out the scoring for the Aggies at the 70:49 mark, finishing in the right bottom corner.
Sophomore midfielder Melissa Cartmell led the Buffs in the shot column with four, and senior goalkeeper Sloane Cox pulled in five saves on the day.
Colorado will face the University of Texas on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Longhorns lead the series 3-0, topping the Buffs 1-0 in Boulder in 1996, and 3-2 in Austin, and 1-0 in San Antonio last season.
All Colorado women's soccer games are played at Pleasant View Soccer Complex in Boulder and admission is free. PVSC is located at the intersection of Foothills Parkway and the Diagonal Highway in North Boulder.
