Colorado Falls 2-0 To Texas A&M

October 15, 1999 | Soccer

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -The University of Colorado women's soccer team (10-6-0, 3-4-0) fell to the Texas A&M Aggies (11-4-0, 5-3-0) by a score of 2-0 tonight. Sophomore
goalkeeper Danielle Bassett had 12 saves in the losing effort.

"We need to do a better job of playing for 90 minutes," said head coach Austin Daniels. "We cannot afford to play for just 84 minutes. We have to play the whole game. It's hard to say what was different in the second half. We just played a much better game."

The Aggies got on the scoreboard early, with Big 12 leading scorer Nicky Thrasher taking a through ball from Mandy Davidson and beating Bassett one-on-one to the right to give the Aggies the 1-0 lead. One minute later Thrasher again took a ball from Davidson and tucked it in the left against Bassett on a one-on-one break again. The goal was Thrasher's league-leading 12th of the year. That would wrap up the scoresheet for the night for both teams.

A&M outshot Colorado 19-0 in the first half, with Bassett pulling in eight of her 12 saves. The Aggies also managed seven comers in the first half to none for the Buffs. "Dani had an outstanding game tonight," said Daniels. "She made some tremendous saves when we needed them and played a very smart game tactically."

The second half was a different story, with CU beating the Aggies in every statistical category. Freshman midfielder Jessi Burgener came off the bench and took two shots, one of which was a header on a corner kick which was cleared off the Aggie line by a defender late in the second half. The Buffs had eight shots in the half to the Aggies five, with Bassett only pulling one save in the half thanks to the efforts of the Buffalo defense.

"It's too bad the game ended like it did because I felt we played better than the score indicated," said Bassett. "I think in the second half we played some of the best soccer we have played, against one of the better teams we have seen. We just could not get the ball in the goal."

Colorado will now travel to Austin to take on the University of Texas Longhorns at noon MDT on Sunday. "This game against Texas is huge," said Daniels. "We are entering the game with
identical records in the Big 12." CU is 0-4 all time against UT, and look to break that streak as assistant coach Dang Pibulvech makes his return to Austin after leaving his post at UT last winter. CU will return for the final regular season games of the season on Friday, Oct. 22 at 3:00 p.m. against Texas Tech and on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 :00 p.m. against Baylor. All CU home soccer games are held at Pleasant View Soccer Complex and are free to the public.
