BOULDERÂ - Colorado, still in search of its first conference win of the season, fell on the short end of a 2-0 score to eighth ranked Texas A&M Friday at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex.
With the shutout Colorado falls to 4-5-1 overall, and winless (0-2-1) in Big 12 play, while A&M improves to 8-3/2-0.
The first-half of the game featured physical play as Colorado held the Aggies to one first-half goal for just the second time in the eight game series between the two programs. Texas A&M forward Lindsey Woodard scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute, her ninth goal of the season.
Woodard scored when Colorado failed to clear the ball and beat CU keeper Jeanne Rankin in the upper right hand corner for the goal. Andrea Starns and Emma Smith picked up the assists for the Aggies.
The Aggies had two more close chances to score in the first half but failed to take advantage of the opportunities. Just 10 minutes after the first goal, A&M's Woodard got the ball in the net again off of a corner kick, but the goal was called back due to a handball violation by the Aggies. In the 41st minute Andrea Starns looked to add to the A&M lead, but shot the ball high after beating a diving Jeanne Rankin.
In the final minute of the half, a CU attempt to get on the scoreboard off a Nicholle Taylor direct kick was blocked by an A&M wall.
Colorado was still very much in the game at half only being down 1-0 to the Aggies, who are the strongest scoring team in the league. A&M had two more shots than the Buffs forcing Rankin to make four save to Katie Jo Spisaks one, and the teams were even in corner kicks (1-1) going into the second half.
Texas A&M midfielder Laura Probst (Arvada) picked up the only goal of the second half in the 73rd minute of play. Probst scored her first goal of the season off of an Aggie corner kick that deflected to her off CU defender Meghan Swanzy. Just six later minutes Probst had another chance to score but her shot sailed high.
Colorado's best chance to score in the second half happened early in the half when Tiffany Booth met up with both the ball and A&M keeper Spisak in the corner of the box.
The Buffs take on No. 4 Texas on Sunday at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex at 1 p.m., as CU will look to upset the Longhorns for its first-ever result against the Longhorns who was playing at Nebraska tonight.
