Postgame Quotes
November 21, 2002 | Men's Basketball
CU HEAD COACH RICARDO PATTON
GENERAL--"I was really pleased with particularly our defensive effort. We have preached defense all year long and if we continue to get better there, we have a chance."
"We probably should not have had 14 turnovers against this team. We just need to do the little things well. As long as we play unselfish on the offensive end and we continue to get better at defense, we'll be alright."
ON ANTOINE MCGEE--"(The newcomers) are continuing to learn. McGee is doing a solid job at the point. What I think helps him the most are the experienced guys around him. When you have guys like Stephane (Pelle) and Blair (Wilson) and Michel (Morandais) around him, it makes things a lot easier on him."
ON BLAIR WILSON'S HOT STREAK/BANK SHOT--"When you see that type of thing, you know a guy's feeling it."
ON THE ASSISTS--"Our guys were looking for one another. That's the kind of game I want to see them play. We had a lot of skip passes and I liked how we shared and passed the ball to each other. I'm really excited that we are coming together and becoming a team."
ON DAVID HARRISON'S BLOCKS--"Coach Gay and I looked at some of the shots that he blocked ad I don't think he would have been able to do that last year. He made some great blocks tonight. Now we have an inside presence. I really think that gives the perimeter guys the confidence that if their guy gets by them, that they've got somebody inside to help them out. So to speak, David has their back.
ON LAMAR HARRIS--"Sometimes I think he gets lost on defense a little, but his energy helps recover him. We need Lamar to continue to get those rebounds and play with the energy he has shown us so far. As long as he has that energy, he is going to be okay and I know he'll continue to get better."
COLORADO PLAYERS
JUNIOR GUARD BLAIR WILSON
ON HIS SHOOTING STREAK--"I came out concerned because we could not warm up as much as we usually do with the women's game. I tried in warm-ups to get my shot down. And once I hit the first, I got in a groove. The guys did a good job of getting me the ball."
ON SUNDAY'S GAME--"The coaches say we have to do what we do. We don't know much about them because it's so early in the season, but I think if we play like we played tonight, I think we can get a win."
SOPHOMORE CENTER DAVID HARRISON
GENERAL--"Overall, I think we played well. I did a crappy job of guarding Varnie (Dennis). He had 27. He is a good player and I need to stop players. I know I can guard him, he's just a really good player."
ON HIS BLOCKS--"I am in a lot better shape this year than I was last year. It helps for blocking shots--it helps a lot."
ON VARNIE DENNIS--"On film, I didn't get to see much of his post moves. He didn't do much in the post on his first tirade. I learned his post moves but then he drove around me. There's nothing that I could do. If I shut him down, it would have been more lopsided than it was probably."
ON PLAY OF THE BENCH--"They come in and go for two to three minutes, if they can keep the score, then we can come back in. They did their job."
JUNIOR GUARD/FORWARD MICHEL MORANDAIS
GENERAL--"They came out in a zone so I tried to take shots from the outside and then I started to drive and I got into a rhythm. I have more confidence this year then I did last year and my freshmen year. Everything seems to be moving slower so I can know whether to pull up or take it."
CAL-POLY HEAD COACH KEVIN BROMLEY
GENERAL--"I like CU's team. They're very athletic and rebound the ball well. They got a nice one-two punch with David Harrison on the inside and Blair Wilson on the outside. They out-rebounded us and crushed us on the glass. But I knew that was going to happen. That was one of our keys going into the game, to crash the boards."
ON THE ALTITUDE--"Mentally, I hope that it didn't affect us, but physically, I think it did a little."
