Buffs Come Back To Beat Cyclones

BOULDER - Freshman Amber Metoyer scored Colorado's last seven points, including a clinching basket with 1.5 seconds left, and the 24th-ranked Buffaloes rallied to beat Iowa State 64-63 Wednesday night in a Big 12 Conference opener.
Colorado (11-1) trailed 58-47 with 7:39 remaining, but outscored Iowa State 17-5 the rest of the way for eighth straight victory.
Metoyer had nine of her 13 points during that stretch. Syreeta Stafford and Randie Wirt had 11 points apiece for Colorado, outshot 53 percent to 45 percent.
Lindsey Wilson scored 24 points for the Cyclones (5-7).
Metoyer hit a short jumper in the lane and Veronica Johns-Richardson a 3-pointer as Colorado cut the deficit to 59-57.
Metoyer missed two free throws, but Colorado got the rebound, and Metoyer's 8-footer made it 59-59 with 2:38 left.
After Metoyer made 1-of-2 free throws, Wilson hit a 15-foot jumper for a 61-60 lead with 1:38 left.
Metoyer's running hook in the lane made it 62-61. Wilson's two free throws put the Cyclones ahead with 15.3 seconds to go, but Metoyer muscled into the lane for the final basket.
In a game of surges and countersurges, Iowa State took a 32-30 halftime lead.
Wilson scored 11 points in the first 7:22 of the second half, including three 3-pointers.
The Cyclones fashioned an 8-0 run to open the half. After Colorado countered with a 6-0 flurry, Iowa State scored eight straight points, capped by Wilson's short jumper which beat the shot clock for a 50-38 lead.
