STRANDEMO ADVANCES AT CENTRAL REGIONAL

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Junior Kendra Strandemo won her lone match of the day, a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Vera Vasileva of Montana State advancing to the Round of 32 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships hosted by the University of Utah.
CU also won all three of its doubles matches advancing to Friday's Round of 32.
Strandemo was the lone singles CU winner on the day and will play her next match Friday morning against ninth seeded Katka Sevicikova of Missouri.
In other singles play, senior Morgan Sall lost her opening round match to Emily Kirchem of Colorado State, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3; along with teammate Jessica Vanderdys, who fell to top-seeded Urska Juric of Missouri, 6-1, 7-6.
In doubles, all three CU teams were victorious in the Round of 64 main draw with Jenny Hanson and Jessica Vanderdys defeating Whitney Eber and Ashley J. Young of Utah, 8-5; Sall and Strandemo edged Megen Ferriera/Whitney Morton of Arkansas, 9-8. The third CU team of Kristy Randono and Marina Sedivec defeated Charity Malone/Carla Pallares of Colorado State, 8-3.
The Buffaloes also fell in two other matches played in the qualifying bracket earlier in the day with Randono and Sedivec falling in their Round of 32 qualifying second round. Randono lost to number three seed Melissa Cornett of Arkansas, 6-4, 6-2, while Sedivec lost to Aline Opala of New Mexico State, 6-3, 6-2.
CU plays its doubles at 4 p.m. on Friday, while Strandemo plays her match at 10 a.m.
The Central Region tournament features over 120 participants in singles play and 56 doubles entries from 26 college teams across the region. The field includes competitors from Utah, Boise State, BYU, Utah State and Weber State; Mountain West Conference schools Colorado State, New Mexico and Wyoming; and other top teams such as Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Tulsa.
