HARRIERS MCCUE/KISSANE FINISH SECOND AND THIRD AT AIR FORCE

USAFA, Colo. ?University of Colorado junior harrier Matt McCue finished second, and junior Katie Kissane third in their respective races at the Air Force Open Cross Country Meet on the Santa Fe Trail Course here Saturday.
It is a career best finish for both CU harriers and led the way for all runners from each squad to finish in the top 20 of their respective loops.
McCue covered the 4-mile Santa Fe Trail in 21 minutes, 50 seconds, just 10 seconds behind race winner Pete Janson (unattached). In the non-team scoring race, McCue was followed by Will Campbell (7th, 22:18), Casey Burchill (18th), Payton Batliner (19th) and Jared Scott (20th who all finished in 23:19.
Kissane was 25 seconds off Air Force's Ilea Eskiidesen's winning time of 19:18 and runner up Lacy Danen's 19:27 as she finished the 3-mile course in 19:43. Buffs Erin Marston (7th, 20:16), Jaclyn Baca (9th, 20:20) and Mackenzie Kerrigan (10th, 20:21) also turned in career best top-10 finishes while Alex Forrest (20:49) finished 12th, Katy Bryan (20:53) 13th and Jill Madone, 19th in 21:41.
“We use the Air Force meet as an opportunity to evaluate the progress of our developmental athletes that aren't among the seven that will run the next two national championship races,” said recently named Big 12 Coach of the Year Mark Wetmore. “Comparing both the men's and women's results of Saturday to those of a year ago, it's easy to see that everyone is making noticeable and admirable progress.”
Colorado continues the 2003 campaign this Saturday, Nov. 15 when CU's third ranked men's and sixth ranked women's varsity teams compete at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships in Ogden, Utah.
