BOULDER - Sophomore guard Marcus Hall scored nine of his team-high 16 points in the first half and Julius Ashby had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead Colorado in the 90-68 win over Regis at the Coors Events Center Monday night in their final exhibition game before opening the regular season on Nov. 15.
“I saw some good things, saw some bad things but I did get a chance to see some different lineups,” said Colorado head coach Ricardo Patton. “Overall I thought Regis came out and played a very physical game.”
Colorado started the game shooting 7-of-13 to lead 16-6 in the first ten minutes, with Hall and Ashby contributing 10 points towards a lead they never relinquished. Colorado then scored 12 unanswered points over the next three minutes to lead 28-6.
Andy Osborn's (nine points, seven rebounds) lay-up with 6:42 left in the game gave Colorado their biggest lead, 74-45. Colorado only managed to out-rebound Regis 44-40, despite having a considerable size difference and committed 30 fouls.
Colorado finished the game shooting 54 percent compared to Regis' 31 percent. Austin Christensen led Regis with 18 points while Ben Schafer had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Colorado opens the season Monday, Nov. 15 against College of Charleston in the opening round of Pre-Season NIT in Boulder.
“They (Charleston) are a very good team. No coach ever thinks his team is completely ready, but I think we are as ready as time will allow,” said Patton. “Charleston is usually a NCAA Tournament team so it will be a very good test for our team.”
Tip-off will be at 7 p.m.
