WOMEN's TENNIS WRAPS UP CU INVITATIONAL

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado women's tennis team wrapped of its three-day invitational on Sunday afternoon taking two of three doubles matches against Denver, and winning two singles matches against Auburn.
The three-day invitational featured the Buffaloes, Auburn, Denver, and Notre Dame.
A Colorado doubles tandem saw itself in the win column against Denver as Kendra Strandemo and Jessica Vanderdys upset the nation's No. 24th ranked team of Yanick Dullens and Suzana Maksovic, 8-6.
The Buffs also secured another win over DU as Martina Sedivec and Allison Quinn held on to a 9-8 victory over Stephanie Ginsburg and Marisa Mechem. Sedivec and Quinn held the tiebreaker lead 6-0, however saw the Pioneer pair rally to take a 7-6 advantage. CU then jumped ahead with two successive points at 8-8 for the 10-8 tiebreaker victory.
Against the Lady Tigers, Strandemo defeated Isabel Rosenbrock in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles; along with Gleisy Torres Torres rallying from a set down to defeat Petra Berick 1-6, 7-5, 3-2 default at No. 3.
The Fighting Irish showed why they are one the top teams nationally after being ranked No. 27th in the nation last spring. Notre Dame won 19 singles and 10 doubles matches over the three days led by the No. 7 doubles team of Catrina and Christian Thompson. The Thompson twins rallied from a 4-1 and 5-2 deficits in very extreme windy conditions to defeat Auburn's Jelena Jovic/Isabella Rosenbrock, 8-6.
Denver won 12 singles matches, CU won eight, followed by Auburn with seven.
“It was a great weekend of great competition,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. “I really like where we are as a team, and the effort and the fight of the girls over the three days.”
Colorado turns their attention to the All-American Championships in Los Angeles from Oct. 2-10, in addition to the U.S. Air Force Invitational at Colorado Springs, Oct. 8-10.
