Santillana, who reached the 20-plus kill plateau for the third time in eight matches, had just four hitting errors in 37 attacks. She had 11 of her kills in a tightly contested game three which saw 17 ties and five lead changes. CU fell behind 26-24 but Santillana nailed down four the Buffs' of the final six points to end the match.
Santillana's hitting was near perfect in game one ending with six kills on just eight attacks with no errors (.750) as the Buffs used an 8-3 run late in the game to pull away. CU kept momentum into game two scoring the first seven points of the set and eventually an eight-point win.
“I think it was a really good effort overall,” CU head coach Pi'i Aiu said. “We need to protect our home floor like this in the conference schedule.”
Junior Allie Griffin had a solid night with 18 kills, giving her double digits for the 10th time in 11 matches this season. Freshman libero Therese Vi?al led all players with a career high 13 digs.
CU's middles played continued to play well at the net on the block. Sophomore Austin Zimmerman had a team-high five blocks, including two solo, while Lara Bossow and Maragda Santillana added four each.
The Buffaloes hit .289 for the match (57 kills-22 errors-121 attacks) while holding Baylor to .189 (40k-18e-120att). Nicole LeBlanc led the Bears with 11 kills while Adeline Meira had seven blocks.
