Nurmi, Jendrian Advance at Central Region Main Draw

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah ? A pair of University of Colorado women's tennis players each won a pair of matches on Wednesday to qualify for the singles main draw at the ITA Central Region Women's Championships hosted by the University of Utah.
Sophomore Veera Nurmi and freshman Franzika Jendrian each won two matches apiece in straight sets to join fellow teammates Jessica Vanderdys and Monica Milewski in the singles main draw beginning on Thursday.
The tournament features over 120 participants from 29 college teams across the region. Tournament play continues on Thursday and Friday featuring main draw singles and doubles, and consolation rounds starting at 8:30 a.m. The quarterfinals and semifinals of all draws will be played Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. The consolation and championship finals of both singles and doubles take place Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Nurmi had little trouble in her first round match defeating Kara Hickey (Iowa State) 6-1, 6-0 in the Round of 64 then dominated Oklahoma's Chelsea Orr, 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 32. Nurmi is 7-3 this fall and has won her last four matches in a row.
Jendrian broke a three-match losing streak defeating Edina Horvath of Kansas, 6-2, 6-2 in her opening Round of 64 match, then followed that with a 6-1, 7-6(3) winner over Monika Purice of Oklahoma, 6-1, 7-6(3) in the Round of 32. Jendrian improved her fall record to 4-6.
Another pair of CU players came up short in their first round matches with junior Martina Sedivec falling in straight sets, as did sophomore Gleisy Torres Torres. Both will team up in Thursday's Round of 64 opening round doubles match.
