Buffs Compete in NCAA Pre-National Qualifier

Four members of the men's track and field team traveled to South Bend Indiana to compete in the NCAA pre-national qualifying meet held at University of Notre Dame. Brett Schoolmeester, Jason Zichterman, Hugh Charles and Stephen Pifer competed against top athletes from around the country for a chance to compete in the NCAA National Championships next Saturday.
Hugh Charles claimed sixth place on Friday night in the long jump, with a jump of 7.49 meters, earning an NCAA provisional qualification mark. Stephen Pifer competed in the mile run taking ninth place with a time of 4:04.10 also claiming an NCAA provisional time.
Jason Zichterman took eleventh place in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.24, while Brett Schoolmeester ran a time of 8:07.39 in the 3000 meter run.
Qualifying for the NCAA National Championship in previous meets were Renee Metivier in the 3000 and 5000 meters, Christine Bolf in the 5000 meters and Brett Vaughn in the 5000 meters. The deadline for setting a qualifying standard for the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships is 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 6. The Buffs will know who qualified for the national meet by Monday night.
The Buffaloes will return to the track Friday, March 11-12 for the NCAA Indoor National Championship in Fayetteville Arkansas
