Women's Golf Third at Ron Moore

September 26, 2005 | Women's Golf

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - The University of Colorado women's golf team had a solid outing Monday at the Ron Moore Women's Invitational at Highlands Ranch Golf Club, sitting in third place after two rounds with a score of 304-299-603.

Host institution the University of Denver leads the way with a 15-over 591, with UC Irvine sitting in second place at 19-over 595.  Colorado is just 14 strokes off the lead, thanks in part to leading the field in team pars with 107.

For the second straight tournament, Colorado got great play out of freshman Lindsay Caljouw, who is in third place with a one-over 145.  She trails leader Emily Hoeper of DU (73-68-141) and Selanee Henderson (72-70-142) but is just four strokes off the lead and could rally Tuesday.

Lindsay Caljouw played really solid today,” said head coach Anne Kelly.  “She made a couple of bogeys early in the afternoon round and came back with three birdies.  She is playing good golf right now and hopefully can keep it going tomorrow.”

Caljouw was not the only Buff in the top 20, as Maria Perrson-Gulda is sitting in 14th place after her one-over 73 in the afternoon round, to give her a score of 150 on the day, just six-over par.  Hannah Hoch and Jessica Malcolm are tied for 24th after two rounds with a score of 154, with Lindsay Koth, making her collegiate tournament debut, checking in with a an 84-83-167 and in a tie for 65th.

Lindsay Koth has made so much improvement,” Kelly said.  “This is her first tournament, and she is really nervous.  She will settle down tomorrow and I think we can expect better things from her tomorrow.”

Overall, Kelly was pleased with the today's effort, which posted a marked improvement from CU's last outing at the CSU Ptarmigan Classic.

We know we are much better than we played at CSU," said Kelly. "Two players around par overall is good, and Jessica shooting 75 this afternoon was a nice score. Hannah will get that putter going and it will be great to have her playing how I know she is capable of playing.  Fourteen strokes is not an impossible margin.  We've got to go out and play a great round tomorrow.

“We just want to keep improving. It was a long day, and for them to shoot a lower score in afternoon (299) than the morning (304) is great. Was long day, was breezy, to keep focused and concentration is a good sign.”

CU will get that chance on Tuesday morning as the Buffaloes and the competition will tee off at Highlands Ranch Golf Club at 8:30 a.m.  HRGC is located at the intersection of Towncenter and Creekside, just off C-470 and Lucent, in Highlands Ranch.  Admission and parking are free.
