On Saturday, the Buffaloes defeated the University of British Columbia, 90-74 during the afternoon and in the evening defeated the Burnaby Mountain All-Stars, 81-53 to finish the tour with a 3-0 record.
Against the Spartans on Sunday, CU had little trouble against the smaller lineup from Canada racing out to a commanding 44-12 lead with a 19-1 run over a three-minute span, and holding TWU without a field goal for 5:15 during the first half. Marcus Hall, Dominique Coleman, and Martane Freeman each scored five points apiece during the run. Overall for the game, Hall led CU with 12 points, followed by Kyle Carder, Glean Eddy, and Scott Senger each with 10 points apiece. Calvin Williams added nine points and 10 rebounds, while Freeman added eight points. Chris Copeland contributed eight points and eight rebounds. The Buffaloes took a commanding halftime cushion into the locker-room building a 57-20 advantage on 51.4 percent from the field (19-of-37), however was impressive from the free throw line converting 15-of-20 (75.0). Leading scorers at the break were Hall and Coleman with 10 and seven points, respectively. CU dominated the game of the boards holding an impressive 62-27 margin over the perimeter-shooting Spartans, who relied on their outside game for its points. TWU went a disappointing 18-of-73 (24.7 percent) from the field, including 7-of-33 behind the 20'6” arc. “Today's game was a good opportunity to play different lineups and play some guys who will probably not play very much this season,” said CU head coach Ricardo Patton. “It's what I call a reward game for those guys who come to practice and work hard every day.” Against TWU, the Buffs used its third different line up with Andy Osborn, Martane Freeman, Richard Roby, Marcus King-Stockton and Dominique Coleman. Only Osborn, Roby, and Coleman started all three games. Against British Columbia, Lamont Arrington and Marcus Hall started, and against the Burnaby Mountain All-Stars, King-Stockton made his first of two starts. Overall, Coach Patton liked what he has seen from his experienced team that possesses 10 seniors. “The first couple of games we played, we're a good read as to where we are at this point. I saw a lot of good things and certainly some things we need to get better at, but overall it's been a good trip,” he said. “Conditioning, I thought was pretty good; one of things that helped us was that we had so many bodies that we could use to get a breather or two, but our guys are really not in terrible shape and probably in better shape than I thought they would have been at this time of year.” CU will return to individual workouts until season officially begins Friday, Oct. 14.
