KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. ? The University of Colorado women's golf team improved three spots and finished in a tie for 13th place in their final tournament of the fall season here Tuesday, shooting the team's tournament best score of 302 in the last round at the College of Charleston Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Campbell University won the tournament with a combined tournament score of 879, and a tournament best round in the final cycle of play with a 286. Campbell was followed by East Tennessee State (889), Louisville (893), Western Carolina (900), and Miami (906) to round out the top five.
Freshman Dominique Pytlewski led the Buffaloes, finishing in a tie for 32nd place at twelve strokes over par (228). She shot a collegiate-best one-over 73 on the final day, which included a four-under 32 on the back nine.
“I was pretty pleased with Domi's round today, shooting 73,” said CU head coach Anne Kelly. “She really focused and put in a good score for us and that was great.”
Pytlewski was followed by sophomore Lindsay Caljouw and freshman Julie Kim, who tied for 44th place at sixteen over par (232). Caljouw shot 73 in her final round. Christine Kim was twenty shots over par (236) with a final round 79, which left her tied for 65th place.
Junior Lindsay Senger rounded out the Colorado scorecard shooting twenty-four strokes over par (240), tying for 79th place.
Steffi Kirchmayr of the College of Charleston shot the best individual score out of the tournaments 99 golfers; with a final score that was two stokes under par (214). Laura Jansone of East Tennessee State shot even par (216) enroot to a second place finish, followed by Cristina Gonzalez of Louisville and Karly Pinder of Iowa State who tied for third place, each shooting one above par (217) respectively.
The Buffaloes will now break for the semester, before coming back on Monday, February 26, to re-commence play in the Fresno State Invitational in Fresno, Calif.
“Overall I think this fall we had some great moments, such as winning the CSU tournament, but we also had a lot of moments where we saw the things we really need to work on for the spring,” said Kelly. “I saw good things this season and I saw things that we need to get working on to be contenders in our spring tournaments. I think we're ready to go to work to shore up those aspects of our game.”
