Milewski Advances To ITA All-American Singles Main Draw

         PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. ? University of Colorado sophomore Monica Milewski won her third straight match at the Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's All-American Championships advancing to the singles main draw with a victory Wednesday afternoon.

 

         Milewski defeated Renata Kucerkova of Fresno State, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in three hours and 50 minutes. Milewski becomes the first CU woman in the last 15 years to reach an individual national singles main draw.

 

         “She played well, fought hard and never gave up,” said CU assistant coach Dominic Modise.

 

         Milewski currently ranked No. 86 nationally is one of eight women from the qualifying rounds advancing to the main draw which features 24 women who have already qualified to the singles main draw.

 

         Milewski won her sixth straight fall match and will play No. 8 Lindsay Nelson (University of Southern California) Thursday at 2:45 p.m.

 

         On Tuesday, the Park Ridge, Ill. native defeated a pair of nationally ranked players ahead of her in the rankings. She upset the No. 8 tournament seed and No. 35 Kim Coventry (University of Kentucky) 6-1, 7-6(3), then followed with an upset winner over No. 59 ranked Monica Dancevic (Georgia) 7-6(5), 6-1.
