MountainView Collegiate Final Results - CU 10th

March 26, 2006 | Women's Golf

CATALINA, Ariz. - The University of Colorado women's golf team posted it's best team score of the year, but it wasn't enough to rally and the Buffs finished 10th at the MountainView Collegiate here Sunday afternoon.

CU posted a final round total of 297, their best score of the season, which moved them from 12th place into 10th.  The previous low was 298 at the Heather Farr Memorial/CU Invite in October at the Omni Interlocken.  It is CU's best team score since their second round total of 292 here last year.

“I am very proud of this team,” said head coach Anne Kelly.  “They have been working hard this spring and it is nice for them to see some good results.  Today's round is just a small indication of how much depth this team has and how good they really are.”

Freshman Lindsay Caljouw had a solid round, posting an even par 72 to finish 21st, the Buffs' top finish on the weekend.  It tied her previous best round of 72, which she shot in the first round of the Ron Moore Invitational last fall.  She went on to take third in that tournament, and Caljouw hopes her performance here today gives her some momentum heading into the team's next meet.

“I'm just playing better,” said Caljouw.   “I'm not really worried about the score; I just feel that I played smarter today.  I've spent more time with the coaches and worked harder this semester and I feel like that's paying off. You can tell by the way I'm playing the game right now.  I think I could play really well at the Northwestern tournament.”

Junior Lindsay Koth had the best round of her collegiate career, posting a 73, CU's second best score of the day.

Lindsay Koth's round was just the catalyst we need to finally break that 300 mark,” said Kelly.  “We are ready to get on a roll and start shooting the low rounds consistently.”

Senior Maria Persson-Gulda had her best day of the tournament with a 75, which put her in a tie for 42nd place in the individual standings.  Hannah Hoch had a 77, the fourth best score of the day for CU, giving her a 228 to finish and 35th place.  Lindsay Senger scored a 78, giving her a total of 234 and 55th place.  CU's two individuals, Catherine Woods and Jess Ellis, both had an 83.

Kansas won the team title with a score of 884 after posting a 290 in the final round of play.  Adriana Zwanck of Arizona won the team title with her three day total of 213.

The Buffaloes will now go on spring break before retuning to Boulder and heading to the Northwestern Tournament which gets going on April 3.
