Caljouw Sixth, Buffs Eighth at Susie Maxwell Invite

April 10, 2006 | Women's Golf

NORMAN, Okla. ? In spite of very windy conditions during the final round here Monday, the University of Colorado women's golf team held on for eighth place at the Susie Maxwell Berning Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma.

The Buffaloes shot 313 on the day, bringing their three day total to 920 after a first round score of 305 and a second round total of 302.

Oklahoma State claimed the team title with a three round total of 867.  Every team shot over par in the final round, with SMU's 296 the top score of the day.  OSU's Pernilla Lundberg took home medalist honors with her 72-68-75-215 total.  All five of OSU's golfers placed in the top 10.

Freshman Lindsay Caljouw continued to pace the Buffaloes, with a team best two-over 74.  She bogeyed her first two holes, but quickly erased that deficit after lipping out a double-eagle try on the par 5 No. 9.  She putted for eagle to push herself back to even par, then managed to play two-over the rest of the round, pushing her total to 222, good for sixth place.

This marks the second top 10 finish for the first year player from Nanaimo, B.C., who took third at the Ron Moore Invitational in September. She is flirting with the school record for spring stroke average, currently sitting at 74.92.  The current mark is 76.11 and was set last year by current Buff Hannah Hoch.  Caljouw holds the fourth best overall average heading in CU's final team event of the year with a 76.00. She trails Erin Kerr's pair of 75.90 as a junior and senior and Hoch's 74.80 last year.

Maria Persson-Gulda was second for the Buffaloes with a total of 231.  She posted the only other sub-80 score for CU in final round play with her 77.  She tied with Hoch, who shot 81 in the final round.  They finished tied for 35th in the standings.

Junior Lindsay Koth put up an 82 today, but still managed to finish in tie for 64th place.  Her three round total was 238.  Lindsay Senger shot 81 today, bouncing back from a rough outing in Sunday's second round which saw her post an 85.  She finished with a three day total of 245, good for 82nd place.

The Buffs now return home to prepare for the 10th Annual Big 12 Conference Tournament underway next week in Lincoln, starting April 16.
