Pifer and Schoolmeester Regionally Qualify At Oregon Invite
April 22, 2006 | Track and Field
In a very closely contended 1,500-m race, in which the top four finishers all came within one second of each other, junior Stephen Pifer finished in fourth place, just .96 seconds after the leader, with a time of 3:43.20. He was followed up in eighth place by senior Bret Schoolmeester who finished in 3:46.37. Both times were regional qualifying marks as Pifer and Schoolmeester became the third and fourth Buffs to earn a mark of 3:47.80 or better this season.
Two of the Buffs' athletes set personal records in the 5,000-m run, sophomore Chris Pannone (14:20.22) and senior Erik Heinonen (14:21.48) who finished in fifth and sixth in their heat, respectively.
A third Buff ran in the 5,000-m run on Friday, freshman Seth Demoor ran in heat C, his first outdoor collegiate 5k run, finishing in fourth place with a time of 14:46.35.
Both Pifer and Heinonen competed in the Oregon Invitational last year, finishing in ninth(Heinonen) and 19th(Pifer) in the 5k. Pifer made the transition to the 1,500-m race this year, while Heinonen competed once again in the 5k.
The rest of the Buffaloes will be on display at the Jack Christiansen Invitational in
