Barringer And Vaughn Advance To NCAA Finals

Barringer, a true freshman, recorded the fourth-best time in school history and a personal record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a mark of 10:12.38. In just her first trip to nationals, she will advance to the finals on Friday, June 9, at 7:35 p.m. (MST). With the mark, Barringer becomes the second best CU performer in the steeplechase. The top performer in the steeplechase is Natalie Florence, who owns the top three times. The CU record is 10:07.51.
Vaughn qualified for the finals in the 5,000. He placed 14th with a time of 14:03.12. The finals for the 5k will be Friday, June 9 at 8:30 p.m. (MST) with 16 competing for the crown. Vaughn finished fourth in the event at last year's national championship.
Pete Janson and Liza Pasciuto each just missed qualifying for the finals in their respective events. Janson finished the steeplechase in 8:49.58 and in the 15th position, just one slot out of qualifying. Janson finished seventh in the first heat. Pasciuto recorded a similar fate as she took 15th in the 5k. She completed the race in 16:24.52, just over one second out of qualifying.
The Buffs are back in action tomorrow. Stephen Pifer will compete in the preliminaries of the 1500 at 7:15 p.m. (MST). Pifer owns the top time in the nation at 3:40.70, which was set at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in May. Carly Newlands will compete in the shot put, with the first flight starting at 8:15. The finals of the 10,000 will be contested tomorrow, with Christine Bolf running at 8:20 and Bret Schoolmeester taking the track at 9.
