Pytlewski Wins, Team Third at TTU Invite
October 09, 2007 | Women's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas ? Sophomore Dominique Pytlewski
became just the third player in Colorado women's golf history to capture a
first place finish when she shot one-under in the third and final round of the
McHaney/Morehead Invitational to finish 77-71-72 ?220 and win on the Rawles
Golf Course here Tuesday.
She is the
first CU women's golfer to take first in a tournament since Hannah Hoch in
2004-05, and just the third in 14 seasons.
She now has three top-five finishes this year, including last week's
second place finish at the Heather Farr Memorial/CU Invitational.
“Domi's win
is huge,” said head coach Anne Kelly.
“She played really solid golf this tournament. She did miss a few birdie opportunities and was
a little disappointed about that, but she was still able finished strong.”
“It feels
pretty good,” said Pytlewski. “I knew
how things were going throughout the round today, so it was a little
nerve-racking. I'm definitely happy
because I feel like I've been playing really well and I've come close, but when
you finally finish on top it's a good feeling.”
“Overall
the team is a little disappointed with the finish,” said Kelly. “We had a chance at finishing really high and
let a few opportunities slip away from us; however, we've been seeing some good
things from our girls in these last few tournaments.”
Senior
Lindsay Senger followed Pytlewski's lead and stayed put in a tie for 14th with
a score of 79-77-75?231. Sophomore Julie
Kim was one-behind Senger with a three round total of 231, as she finished in a
tie for 16th.
Freshman
Stephanie Simich rounded out her third round with a three-stroke improvement,
shooting 80-80-77?237 and wrapped up play tied for 28th. Junior Cierra Ko also improved with each
round and shot a 79 on the final day to give her a three-round total of 242.
“There are
still aspects of our game that we need to work on,” said Kelly. “We have a nice break right now to work on
those things and get ready for our last tournament of the fall season.”
“We were
close,” said Pytlewski. “Everyone keeps
blaming themselves but in every tournament we're all going to make
mistakes. While we are starting to
eliminate some of those mistakes, there are still things that we need to work on
and we're looking forward to finishing the fall season stronger in
After two
straight weeks of tournaments, the Buffs will take next week off from
competition before heading to
“We have a
nice break right now to work on some things and get ready for our last
tournament of the fall season,” said Kelly.
