Aggies Take Down Buffs In Four

“I think that was a match like we have played all year,” head coach Pi'i Aiu said. “We played well at times and we make some runs, but we don't do a really good job of staying in any one part of the game. I think the big thing we have to work on in the off season are the basic things.
“Texas A&M pressured us a little bit and I don't think we responding well to their pressure. And that is the biggest thing I think with the season; we have had a little bit of trouble responding.”
Schylur Edelman led the Buffs with 15 kills in the effort. Alex Buth added 13 and Mallori Gibson tallied 11. The Buffs hit .147 on the night with 61 kills on 170 attacks with 36 errors. Kaitlyn Burkett recorded 51 assists in the effort.
The Buffs honored its two seniors, Therese Vi?al and Kristen Karlik. Karlik will end her two-year career with the Buffs with 501 career digs, which ranks 29th on the all-time chart. Vi?al recorded 365 digs in her career. Both started the match.
“They have meant so much to us,” Aiu said. “Therese Vinal hasn't played a lot in the last couple of years, but she has really done a great job of keeping herself involved with this team and that has been so important to everything we have done.
“Kristen Karlik has been struggling with an injury all year and has been in and out. She has been playing well when she is healthy but she struggles when her back is hurting her. And it's too bad because she could have been one of the top liberos in the conference.”
Edelman recorded six blocks in the match and now has 107 for the season. She became the first Buff since Lara Bossow in 2004 to record more than 100 blocks in a season. CU put up 7.0 blocks in the match. TAMU recorded 15.0.
Callie Webster recorded 21 digs to lead the Buffs. It was the ninth time this season she has recorded 20 or more digs. Karlik had a season-high 10 digs. CU recorded 63 digs, one less than the Aggies.
TAMU took control of the second game right away with three straight points and would never look back, taking a 13-point lead at the end of the game. The third game was a little closer, but the Buffs were held to a .154 attack percentage while the Aggies hit .205.
CU took its first lead since winning the first game in the fourth set at 7-6 en route to rattling off seven straight points to take a 10-6 lead. The Buffs held the lead until the Aggies used a 7-0 run to take a 21-18 lead. TAMU pulled out to a 25-20 lead and would eventually close the game and the match at 30-23.
