Pasciuto and Nelson Earn Regional Marks

April 01, 2007 | Track and Field

PALO ALTO, Calif. ? Liza Pasciuto and Billy Nelson each earned regional qualifying marks in the 5,000 meter run at the Stanford Invitational Saturday night.

Pasciuto, a sophomore, took sixth overall in the top section of the 5k. She finished in a time of 15:54.50, well under the regional mark of 16:52.00. Pasciuto's time was a personal best, topping her previous pr of 16:18.36 set last year, also at the Stanford Invite. The time was also the eighth best in school history and she becomes the fourth fastest CU runner in the event.

“Liza ran the fourth fastest 5,000-meters by a CU runner,” head coach Mark Wetmore said. “She ran 15:54. The three women ahead of her were all NCAA Champions, so it was a real good race for her and the second fastest time by a CU sophomore.”

Nelson, a senior, was 23rd in the top section of the 5,000-meters. He crossed the tape in 14:02.61, under the regional mark of 14:12.00.

The Colorado track and field team will be back in action on Saturday, April 7 as CU will host the Colorado Invitational.
