Buffs Fall In Three To Baylor
November 08, 2008 | Volleyball
BOULDER ? The University of Colorado volleyball team fell in three sets (21-25, 19-25, 23-25) to Baylor on Saturday afternoon at the Coors Events Center.
With the loss, the Buffs are now 12-11 overall and are 6-8 in the Big 12. Baylor improved to 15-10 overall and 7-8 in the league.
“We need to work our butts off,” senior outside hitter Amber Sutherland said. “We aren't going to take this lightly in practice. As seniors we don't want to miss out on anything. We have to lay it all out on the court.”
Alex Buth led the Buffs with seven kills but hit .000 with seven errors on 24 attacks. Sutherland, Lauren Schaefer and Emilee Sisco each added six kills in the effort. As a whole, CU hit just .088 with 35 kills. Baylor recorded 44 kills in the win and hit .262.
Buth led Colorado with 14 digs and Callie Webster added 12. Schylur Edelman and Sutherland each posted three blocks.
The Buffs had earned a 5-1 home record at home in the Big 12 prior to the loss, but were unable to use that home court advantage on Saturday to turn the tide in their favor.
“We had a really nice practice yesterday and then we came out today really flat,” head coach Pi'i Aiu said. “I think what they need to do is start loving the game. They seem to like training. We are doing a good job in the gym. They need to come out here and love the competition side of it.
“I think there are different pressures depending on whether they think they can win or not. I think we are training well and that is all we can do as coaches.”
Colorado will continue its home-stand with a pair of matches next week. The Buffs will host No. 15 Kansas State on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. and Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. The contest against KSU will be televised live on FSN-Rocky Mountain.
