Salzmann, Haverty Lead Buffs at Glenn Morris

FORT COLLINS, Colo.?The University of Colorado combined event athletes wrapped up the second day of competition at the Glenn Morris Multi Event meet at Colorado State University.

 

Adam Salzmann held onto his second-place position in the second day of decathlon events, finishing with a total of 6,232 points. Salzmann led the field in the 1500-meter run with a first-place time of 4 minutes and 33.30 seconds. He finished second in both the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.09 and the discus throw with a mark of 106 feet and 1 inch.

 

Salzmann and fellow Buff Ryan Dresen tied for third place in the javelin throw with marks of 127-07. Dresen finished in fifth place in both the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.03 and the discus throw with a mark of 91-02. Dresen's 5,029 total points earned him a fifth place finish at the meet.

 

In the heptathlon, Chelsea Haverty finished in fourth place with 4,635 total points to lead Colorado. Haverty followed up her solid day one showing with a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17-02. She also placed fourth in the javelin throw with a throw of 95-08. In the final event of the day, Haverty finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.09.

 

Colorado had three other women competing in the heptathlon. Troi Smith finished in sixth place with 4,015 points, Max Van Dyke's 3,355 points earned her a ninth-place finish and Kathleen Majewski finished in 10th place with 3,150 points.

 

The javelin throw proved to be one of the best events for the heptathlon athletes, with Van Dyke placing fifth with a throw of 95-06 and Smith finishing sixth with a mark of 93-03.

 

The rest of the Buffs will be back in action Saturday at the Christiansen Invitational, which will also be held at Colorado State University.
