CU Heather Farr Second Round Suspended; Golfers Eighth

October 05, 2009 | Women's Golf

ERIE - The University of Colorado women's golf team battled through wet and cold conditions here Monday and was in eighth place after round one on the first day of the CU Heather Farr Memorial.  The Buffs had gained ground and pulled within the top five in round two before play was suspended due to the weather, with teams having a maximum of three holes left to play.

Southern Methodist University held the lead after round one, shooting a 287 (1-under) in the morning.  Texas Tech, who led for most of the morning round, finished three strokes back with a 2-over, 290 first round scorecard.  Nebraska (295), San Diego State (296) and Minnesota (297) rounded out the top-five.

Senior Dominique Pytlewski led the Buffs in the morning round with a 1-over 73, tying her for 10th place individually, while Sophomore Emily Talley posted a 3-over 75 first round score and was tied for 21st.

Senior Christine Kim and sophomore Meaghan Kari shot identical 77's in round one (5-over) and senior Julie Kim rounded out the team scoring with a 79 (7-over).

Colorado's four-player "B" Team finished 17th in the morning round with junior Stephanie Simich leading the pack.  Simich was tied for 40th after her first round 77.  Freshman Devin Dougherty carded a 79 and was tied for 67th, while Taylor Doyle and Jamie Befort recorded first round scores of 80 and 81, respectively.

The Buffaloes were unofficially in a tie for fourth place before getting pulled off the course with as many as three holes remaining in the round.

"It was a tough day and tough weather conditions, but a remarkable tournament staff made it all worth it," said head coach Anne Kelly.  "The team hung tough today and we're ready to make a strong finish in the third round."

Michelle Edlin (Minnesota), Alex Gibson (Texas Tech), and Tanya Wadhwa (Southern Methodist) were all tied for first place after round one with 2-under 70 totals.  Jennifer Hooper of Southern Methodist University recorded an impressive hole-in-one on the 9th hole, which was her first shot of the day.

Teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning to finish the remainder of round two, and the third and final round will start immediately after.  Live stats are available at www.golfstat.com.
